Coming Up: 🌍 Windows to the World

On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October, embassies in Canberra will open their doors—giving the public the opportunity to explore international architecture, gardens, culture and traditions without leaving the capital. There will be guided tours, cultural performances, traditional food and drink, and interactive displays from across the globe. Entry is free, but bookings are required. (Some events will book out, so I recommend booking soon!) Details here.


🍴 Canberra Eats

This week’s serving of foodie news:

Murrumbateman Moving Feast: Take a journey through the Murrumbateman region, indulging in premium food and wine at some of the region’s top foodie spots. Over the October long weekend, each participating venue is offering a specially curated dish paired with a local wine. Stop by multiple venues to make it a feast! Details here.

Riesling Masterclass: Held alongside the Canberra International Riesling Challenge is a masterclass for those looking to learn more about Riesling. This session offers the rare chance to taste wines from the CIRC Museum Collection, featuring past trophy-winning Rieslings that are rarely commercially available. Details here.

Tipsy Tea: Bottomless high tea is back at the Yacht Club on 5 October. Enjoy a selection of sandwiches, mini quiches, scones, French pastries and other sweet treats alongside bottomless prosecco. It’s held on the balcony overlooking the lake. Details here.

That Other Place: The pop-up outdoor bar That Other Place by Pilot is reopening today at Ainslie shops. Pop in for a pre-dinner drink—the cocktail list looks fantastic, with highlights including a Cumquat Toreador and a Banana and White Chocolate Highball. It’s open Thursday to Sunday, 4pm–10pm, in the courtyard outside Pilot. Details here.

Midnight Gin Garden: As part of Floriade: Around Town, Midnight in Braddon has put together a spring menu featuring floral gin cocktails (including one for two, served in a vintage teapot), a gin tasting flight and grazing antipasto boards. Details here.

Filipino Dinner: Experience the bold, soulful flavours of the Philippines when Chef Jaxson Mills takes over The Denman Kitchen for a one-night-only dinner. Expect a feast that celebrates the balance of sweet, sour and savoury—from vibrant small plates to hearty shared dishes, all designed to highlight the warmth and generosity of Filipino cooking. The dinner will be paired with a curated selection of local wines and craft beers. Details here.

The Jetty: The summer beer garden at The Jetty is opening this Saturday next to LBG. The food trucks are back, and every Sunday, there will be $10 Aperol spritzes.

Spirits Festival Postponed: The Botanica Spirits and Food Festival scheduled for 4 October has been postponed. A new date is yet to be announced.


Something to do: 🏹 Try Archery

Have you ever wanted to give archery a go? The Canberra Archery Club, based in Lyneham, is running Come and Try sessions for beginners who’ve never picked up a bow before. Each 1.5-hour session includes all equipment and support from qualified coaches who’ll show you how to shoot safely. Details here.

Omar Musa: Author, visual artist and poet from Queanbeyan, Omar Musa will be in conversation with Beejay Silcox on his new novel Fierceland, a globe-spanning epic of power and family secrets. Details here.

Writers Festival: Events are booking out at the Canberra Writers Festival, happening 22–26 October—the vibrant springtime program of masterclasses, author talks, panel discussions, workshops, and book launches will be set against the backdrop of some of Australia’s most iconic national institutions. Coming Up: 🏃‍♀️ Canberra Colour Run

Canberra Colour Frenzy is a non-competitive fun run where participants of all ages can walk, skip, hop or jump their way through the course. There’ll be a bubble machine, obstacles and, of course, colour stations that shower participants with bursts of powder. It’s coming up on 12 October. Details here.

Yowani Development: Work will soon begin on the 800-home development next to the Yowani Country Club. It’s just one of a number of redevelopments being planned by Canberra’s golf clubs. Details here.
