When the Rain Stops Falling: Recently voted one of the top three Australian plays of the 21st century in a national ArtsHub poll of theatre professionals, When the Rain Stops Falling follows the interconnected stories of two families over four generations—between a prediction in London in 1959 and its outcome in Australia 80 years later. Acton Waterfront: Fencing around the Acton Waterfront site has been removed and the park is now open to the public. At the moment, the space is mostly grass—it's a temporary park until construction on the Ngamawari Park begins in 2026. While the weather is still warm(ish) during the day, it could be a nice spot for a picnic.
Bean Count Continues: While it initially looked like Labor had retained all three ACT seats, Bean is now shaping up as a much closer race. The ABC currently estimates independent Jessie Price is ahead in the count, but it's still too close to call. Further counting today should provide a clearer picture. More.
Ditching Pokies: The Canberra Bowling Club has ditched its pokies, joining the Polish Club in Turner and the Yowani Country Club to become pokie‑free. The Bowling Club took advantage of the ACT Government's surrender scheme, which allowed venues to hand back machine licences in exchange for cash to diversify their income streams. While clubs like Canberra Bowling are moving into live music and expanding their sports revenue, the Vikings Group and Canberra Southern Cross Club—both of which operate multiple venues—surrendered only 40 pokie licences each.
Correction: In yesterday's issue, the LEGO Roundabout Sale was listed as happening on the 11th. It's actually happening this Saturday, May 10.
