Reconciliation Day is happening next Monday, June 2, and there's a full program of events in Commonwealth Park. Rapper and master storyteller Kobie Dee will headline the entertainment program at Stage 88, alongside a range of performances. Winter is truffle season in Canberra, and the region is home to a number of truffle farms. Here's what's happening:
Beltana Farm: Beltana Farm has put together a full program of events for their favourite time of year. The season begins with the After Dark Truffle Fest—think outdoor firepits, a BBQ, and a meal by the fireplace. Beltana is also running truffle hunts and a truffle cooking masterclass. Details here.
Mount Majura Vineyard: All winter, Mount Majura Vineyard will be offering a decadent truffle experience. They use truffles from the neighbouring Truffle Farm to infuse a rich triple-cream brie-style cheese, served with a flight of three 80ml glasses of wine matched to the truffled brie. You can book the truffle and wine experience on their website. Details here.
The Truffle Farm: The Truffle Farm in Majura hosts three signature experiences during the winter months. Take a Truffle Hunt and watch the truffle dogs in action. You can add brunch or lunch to the experience and enjoy fresh truffles alongside other farm-made products. Details here.
The Italian Place Regional Truffle Dinner: Enjoy Blue Frog truffles in four courses with a Tuscan-inspired menu and matching wines. Details here.
Contentious Truffle Dinner: Contentious Character will be hosting their annual winemaker truffle dinner on July 19. The five-course truffle indulgence (with the option to add matching wines) features fresh local truffles from the Blue Frog truffle farm. Details here.
Australian comedian and radio personality Merrick Watts is bringing his hit show An Idiot's Guide to Wine to Canberra this July. Merrick isn't just a comedian; he's also a qualified wine expert and judge. Over the course of the evening at Pialligo Estate, you'll taste six standout Australian wines with snack pairings and plenty of laughs. Details here.
King of Dirt: Holden Sheppard will launch his first novel for adults, King of Dirt, a gritty and heartfelt gay coming-of-age story, and celebrate the recent television series adaptation of his first novel, Invisible Boys. Details here.
Fantastic Bus Trips: Join Victoria Wells to build confidence using public transport on this scenic trip around the north of Canberra. Details here.
Robyn Archer and the Pack of Women: It has been almost 40 years since the ABC broadcast The Pack of Women, the television version of Robyn Archer’s ground-breaking cabaret of the same name. This special event will include an exclusive screening of the hour-long TV show which focuses on women’s issues of the time, and features Archer’s iconic Menstruation Blues.
Farrer Ridge Cultural Walk: Join Buru Ngunawal Aboriginal Corporation for a guided cultural walk on Farrer Ridge. This event offers a chance for the broader community to learn about Ngunawal perspectives on land, history, and culture. This inclusive event is open to everyone interested in learning more about the cultural heritage, history and continuing significance of the land we live on. Details here.
One of Australia's finest singer-songwriters, Pete Murray, is on a mammoth 54-date tour across Australia. He's bringing his solo acoustic show to Canberra on July 20, and there are just a few tickets left for the intimate performance. Details here.
Power Bills Set to Rise: ActewAGL’s regulated standing offer will rise by just over 10% on average from July 1, driven largely by wholesale power prices. It’s a good reminder to check you’re not on the standing offer—there’s almost always a better deal out there. It can also be worth switching providers to lock in a more competitive rate.
