Following the success of the Pompeii and Egypt exhibitions, the National Museum’s next blockbuster has been revealed—Hallyu! The Korean Wave. Developed by London’s renowned Victoria and Albert Museum, this major exhibition dives into the global explosion of South Korean pop culture. It features over 250 items, including costumes and props from K-pop sensations aespa and PSY, as well as pieces from Parasite and Squid Game. It opens in December. Details here.
Here’s what’s coming up this week in Canberra:
Bricks @ The Woden School: The Woden School, in partnership with the Canberra LEGO User Group, is running a LEGO fair. There will be over 100 LEGO displays, along with competitions, raffles, a sausage sizzle, stalls, face painting, and Devonshire tea. The event raises money for the Woden School, supporting students with special needs. Details here.
World Bee Day: There’s a Bee Fair at the Belgian Embassy, tours at Parliament House, and a special bee-themed farmers market happening for World Bee Day. Details here.
Million Paws Walk: Bring your family and furry friends to the Patrick White Lawns for a fun-filled walk to help raise funds for animals in need! This will be the last national Million Paws Walk. Details here.
Canberra Winter Gem and Mineral Show: The Canberra Lapidary Club is hosting the Winter Gem and Mineral Show at EPIC this weekend. Dealers will be selling jewellery, rough and cut gemstones, opals, fossils, rocks, and mineral specimens. There will also be displays of members’ collections and demonstrations of cabbing, faceting, and jewellery making. Details here.
Autumn Art Fair: The Little Burley Market is holding its Autumn Art Fair by the shores of LBG this Saturday. Local artists will be displaying their work alongside a program of creative activities. Details here.
The Psychology of Serial Killers: There are just a handful of tickets left to The Psychology of Serial Killers at the Canberra Theatre. Presented by renowned forensic psychologist Dr Rachel Toles, this 90-minute masterclass will uncover the shocking truths behind serial killers and the psychology that drives them to commit unimaginable crimes. National Archives Community Day: The National Archives is holding a Community Day to celebrate the opening of their latest exhibition, Camel trains to steel wheels: life on the Trans-Australian Railway. The day will feature live music, delicious food, miniature train rides, guided tours, and more. Details here.
Canberra Seniors Centre Autumn Fete: I don’t have many details on the Canberra Seniors Centre Autumn Fete, but apparently “the book stall will be massive” this year. As well as books, you’ll find plants, CDs, food, and more. Details here.
ACT Law Courts Open Day: Unless you work in the justice system, you probably never want to find yourself inside the ACT Courts. But are you curious how the ACT justice system works? The ACT Courts are hosting an open day this Friday for anyone interested in learning how the courts operate. It’s particularly suited to students exploring careers in law. Details here.
To celebrate Botanic Garden Week, the Botanic Gardens is running free Dinosaur Five walks. Discover fascinating species from Gondwana, the southern supercontinent, and encounter majestic plants like the Wollemi Pine, Podocarpus elatus, Araucaria cunninghamii, Drimys winteri, and Tasmannia insipida. London Circuit East Reopens: The eastern section of London Circuit has reopened after being closed for nearly three years to raise the level of Commonwealth Avenue. The stretch between Commonwealth Avenue and Constitution Avenue is now open to vehicles in both directions. New footpaths and cycle lanes will open soon. The reopening should ease some of the traffic issues in the area.
Canberra Cavalry Withdraws: The 2025 Australian Baseball League season is up in the air after the Canberra Cavalry joined the Melbourne Aces in withdrawing from the league. The Cavalry cited uncertainty about the league’s future as the reason. One of the league’s foundation teams, the Cavalry, are the reigning champions.
A powerful new work from Bangarra Dance Theatre explores the wonder and threat of light, from the spiritual force that has shaped Indigenous culture for millennia to the harsh realities of light pollution. It’s coming to Canberra Theatre in July. Details here.
