This Open Day, as part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Australian honours system, Australia Post, the National Portrait Gallery, Questacon and The Royal Australian Mint will have displays. There will also be a scavenger hunt, stalls and food vendors. Entry is free. Details here.
Canberra Wine Week is happening next week, including the 2025 Stomp Festival on April 5-6—a weekend dedicated to local wine, food, and entertainment. Here are some of the highlights:
Grape Stomping
Join the team at Mount Majura Vineyard for an afternoon of grape stomping. Kick off your shoes and hop into a bucket of grapes. See how much juice you can extract in a minute—there are a few prizes up for grabs on the day. Your ticket includes the stomping session, wine tasting, and a glass of wine. Details here.
East Hotel Tasting
Six of the region's top wineries will be at East Hotel next week for a 90-minute wine-tasting experience. Tickets include an antipasto platter from Agostini's to complement your wine. Details here.
Winemaker for a Day
Join Lerida Estate's Chief Winemaker, Jacob, for a hands-on experience in the winery. After helping out with a few tasks, you'll enjoy garlic or truffle bread, cheese and charcuterie, chips, and a glass of wine in the Barrel Room, along with a guided tasting. Details here.
Le Cheeserie Wine and Cheese Masterclass
Join Canberra's dedicated cheese shop, Le Cheeserie, for a wine and cheese masterclass. They've selected three of their favourite cheeses to pair with wines from Mount Majura Vineyard. Details here.
Picnic and Wine
If you're after a more laidback experience during Canberra Wine Week, bring a picnic blanket and head to Pankhurst Wines to soak up views of the Brindabellas while enjoying delicious wine and live music. Details here.
Capital Wines
During the Stomp Festival, enjoy a beef spit roast roll with caramelised onions, beef jus and mustard, paired with a glass of Capital's The Leader of the House Shiraz Viognier or the newly released The Whip Riesling ($12). Complimentary wine tastings will run all weekend. While you're at Capital Wines in Hall, check out the latest exhibition Between Earth and Sky in the gallery. Details here. (Thanks to Christien for the tip.)
Comfort Food Cabaret is dinner with a show. Australia's singing cook, Michelle Pearson, will serenade diners as she creates a delicious three-course canapé menu—accompanied by a live band performing a playlist of jazz, rock, and pop.
The show, happening at Tuggeranong Arts next Saturday, is a mix of traditional music, story-driven comedy/cabaret, cooking class, and pop-up restaurant. Details here.
The Monaro Folk Society presents the Shearers' Ball—an evening of dancing with live music from Canberra Celtic band Humbug. No experience is required, and there's no need to bring a partner—all dances will be called and taught on the night. Details here.
