I think it's a bit too warm for a hike this weekend, but the Bendora Arboretum will make a great excursion during autumn. The Arboretum, located in Namadgi National Park, was established in 1940 as part of a series of experimental forestry plantings designed to determine which tree species were best suited to the Canberra region. Bendora is the only forestry arboretum in the Brindabellas to have survived the 2003 bushfires, which destroyed 20 others.
A short walk from Mt Franklin Road leads through the Arboretum, featuring interpretive signs. Details here.
From Mexican wrestling at the Harmonie Club, a sneak peek at the Recyclery's new bike repair shed, to a 60th celebration at the mint, there's plenty happening this weekend in Canberra.
