Step back in time for a trip down memory lane at The Durham's 80s-themed trivia night in Kingston. It's happening this Thursday, entry is free, and there are prizes—including for best dressed. Details here.
Poppyfield Street: Dickson Place in Dickson has been renamed Poppyfield Street in recognition of the suburb's historical role in opium farming. From 1940 to 1962, an area in Dickson was leased to the CSIRO to develop high-yield poppy plants. The original proposal was to rename Dickson Place to Dickson Street to reflect that it's not actually a place. However, a proposal from the Dickson Residents Group to honour this unique piece of local history was endorsed by the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee.
Lake Ginninderra to be Lowered: You may notice the water in Lake Ginninderra is a little lower this week. It's being progressively lowered by 500mm to allow investigation works as part of the Emu Bank Upgrade.
The Canberra Reclink Community Cup is an annual charity footy match and music event. It pits a team of local musicians (The Limestones) against a team of local media (The Noise), raising funds for Reclink ACT—a charity supporting people experiencing homelessness and other hardships.
The Cup kicks off with a fundraiser this Sunday at Gang Gang, featuring a line-up of local artists. There'll also be a raffle, footy trivia, and info on how to join the teams. Details here.
