Water Lantern Festival 'Scam': Canberrans have paid over $40 per ticket for a "Water Lantern Festival" that won't be going ahead. The festival was heavily advertised on social media, but the NCA has confirmed it was never approved. The company, which sells tickets to similar events in other locations, has now removed the Canberra event from its website. More.
Canine Parvovirus: The RSPCA is urging people to ensure their dogs are vaccinated against Canine Parvovirus after neonatal puppies who were surrendered to the shelter tested positive for the deadly virus. More.
Enlighten Expands: This year's Enlighten Festival will expand beyond the National Triangle with experiences and illuminations at Glebe Park, the National Film and Sound Archive, Mt Stromlo Observatory and the Australian Botanic Gardens. Details here.
Compost Snakes: A reminder to take care around compost bins after a gardener at the Holder community garden was recently bitten on the hand by a brown snake in a compost bin. Fortunately, other gardeners were nearby to administer first aid with a snake bite kit and call an ambulance. The gardener made a full recovery after a night in hospital.
Canberra By Bike is hosting a family-friendly slow ride this weekend in the shape of a slithering snake. The ride begins at Parliament House and ends at the Lunar New Year Festival in Dickson. Details here.
The Memory Walk & Jog is back for another year to support the 421,000 Australians living with dementia and the 1.6 million people involved in their care.
