📆 Today: A New Pop-Up Cinema + Cocktails with Cats

Coming Soon: 🎥 Elsie’s Film House

A pop-up cinema lounge is opening in the heart of the city. With plush couches and social seating, film lovers will enjoy chilled drinks at the bar, classic popcorn, choc tops, and a carefully curated film program featuring 70s, 80s, and 90s nostalgia, cult classics, arthouse gems, and international favourites.

Elsie's will also host community movie nights for various migrant communities and Queer Flicks, a program dedicated to Canberra's queer community. To kick things off, Elsie's will host the Multicultural Film Festival as part of the National Multicultural Festival. The pop-up cinema will run for six months at the Civic Square Hub. Coming Up: 🐱 Cocktails and Kittens

Canberra Street Cat Alliance is running a Cocktails and Cuddles event this Valentine's Day. Enjoy an evening of cocktails/mocktails, a yummy grazing table and cuddles from rescued street kittens. Details here.


Looking Ahead: 🚂 Steam Train Rides

This Easter, hop aboard a restored heritage steam locomotive for a round trip from Canberra to Bungendore. Private compartments for up to eight people and four-seater booths are available to book. The dining car will also be serving a delightful high tea.

And on March 8 and 9, the Capital Dining Train will be running which features a three-course meal. Details here.


This Weekend: 🏉 Brumbies Fan Day

Meet the Super Rugby Pacific and Super Rugby Women's 2025 playing squads this Sunday at the Brumbies Fan Day. There will be a bouncy castle, backyard games and giveaways for the kids and a coffee van for the adults. Details here.

Skyfire Date Announced: Skyfire 2025 will be held on March 15. The 8:30pm fireworks show will run for 20 minutes, with the soundtrack being broadcast on 104.7 and 106.3 radio. More.

Smoke in Canberra: Smoke drifted into Canberra yesterday, with the ESA attributing it to bushfires burning in Victoria. PM2.5 Air quality readings in Monash and Florey were classified as "poor" at 9:00pm last night.

Canberra Cavalry in the Finals: The Canberra Cavalry secured their spot in the Australian Baseball League finals after a strong performance in the semi-finals last weekend. They will face the Perth Heat in a best-of-three series, with all games taking place in Perth due to travel constraints. Typically, finals games are split between the teams to ensure fairness. More.

Chez Frederic Closes: Lonsdale Street pasta restaurant Chez Fred's has announced its closure after struggling to remain viable since COVID. Chez Fred's founder, Sara Pouget, recently ran as an Independents for Canberra candidate in the ACT election.
