Looking to flex your creative muscle and try something new? Here are a few unique courses for anyone eager to explore their artistic side:
Photography: Local photographer Cristy Froehlich runs a monthly Be Curious photo walk. Bring your phone or camera along to take photos on a walk outside. If you have any photography questions along the way, feel free to ask Cristy who has a wealth of both photographic and environmental knowledge. Details here.
Leatherworking: Tharwa Valley Forge is known for its blacksmithing and knife-making courses, but they also run leatherworking courses where you'll learn how to make your own sneakers, hat, book covers or bag. Details here.
Glass Blowing: In this one-on-one class at the Canberra Glassworks, you'll make your very own glass cup or vase. Details here.
Jewellery: Make your own silver or gold ring at the Blonde ring-making class held at Belco Arts. Details here.
CIT Solutions also runs a one-day workshop on making jewellery using silver clay. Details here.
Wheel Throwing: If you've ever wanted to give wheel throwing a go, Clay Studioruns pop-up classes where you spend a couple of hours using a pottery wheel to make 4 works such as bowls and mugs. Details here.
You don't need to be a runner to take part in the upcoming Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run. The family run/walk is just 2.5km, with activities along the way to encourage walkers and runners of all ages. Get pumped up with live music, dancers and a cheer squad, run through the bubble zone and try your hand on the obstacle course as you race your way to the finish line. Money raised goes to Hands Across Canberra, a local organisation that distributes funds to charities across Canberra. Details here.

The Dairy Road Play Days are free kids' play sessions held at the LESS Garden in the Dairy Road precinct. There is entertainment and free play with water instruments, bubbles, toys and tunnels. Each session includes a performance at 1pm and 3pm. Details here.

Bluetts Block Nature Reserve: Following a strong community campaign, a section of what's known as 'Bluetts Block' in the Molonglo Valley has been converted into a nature reserve. This reserve will protect the habitat for Superb Parrots, Scarlet Robins, Box-Gum Woodland and the Pink-Tailed worm lizard. More.
Garden City Bike Path: The first section of the Garden City Bike Path running through the inner north of Canberra has been completed. The section runs from Cooyong Street in Braddon to Limestone Avenue in Ainslie.
John Brookes: Local artist John Brookes, celebrated for his inclusive approach and deep ties to community organisations, has passed away. John had over 30 years in arts marketing in the public, government, commercial and disability charity sectors in a career spanning the UK, Fiji and Australia—he was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal and an ACT Chief Minister's Inclusion Award for his passionate advocacy. His final exhibition, "Unconditional,"—a show about love in its many forms— is now on at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Details here.
