The National Museum is hosting an Italian night under the stars as part of the Viva Italian Festival. Expect live music, performances, and authentic Italian food, wine, and cocktails. There'll also be a marketplace featuring handmade goods, artisan products, and providores inspired by Italian culinary traditions. Details here.
If you haven't yet had the chance, it's also a great opportunity to catch the Pompeiiexhibition, which will be open late until 8:30pm. Pompeii wraps up on May 4.
Next Saturday, April 12, is Record Store Day—a celebration of Australia's independent record stores. In Canberra, Landspeed Records in the City and Dynomite Records in Kambah will be taking part. Landspeed will have a large selection of the limited edition RSD releases. Details here.
In sad news for vinyl lovers, Record Store Day will also be the last day of trading for Dynomite Records. In the lead-up to the big day, they'll be offering extensive discounts on all remaining stock.
Each May, the Canberra International Music Festival brings a rich mix of classical and contemporary art music to the capital. The program spans everything from early and baroque works to romantic, modern, and brand-new compositions. You'll also hear global classical traditions, Indigenous music, and bold contemporary pieces. The festival begins on April 30, with over two dozen concerts happening this year. Details here.
👕 A New Vintage Clothing Store on Lonsdale Street: Meet the five 19-year-olds opening a vintage clothing store on Lonsdale Street, where Trilogy Skateboards used to be. They currently run Australia's number one store on the circular fashion marketplace Depop. More.
⚽️ Matildas Tickets: The Matildas' international friendly at Canberra Stadium is set to be a sell-out, with Football Australia saying more than 20,000 tickets have already been sold. Tickets here.
Soup Lady Statue: Artist Louise Skačej has been commissioned by the ACT Government to create a public artwork honouring Stasia Dabrowski OAM, affectionately known as Canberra's 'Soup Kitchen Lady'. Dabrowski (1926–2020), a Polish immigrant, became a beloved figure in Canberra for her compassion and dedication in running a mobile soup kitchen every Friday night in Garema Place. The artwork will be unveiled next year.
The TEN Tenors are marking 30 years on stage with a new national tour, landing in Canberra in 2025. Known for their powerful vocals and playful medleys, the group blends classical favourites like Nessun Dorma with pop anthems from Queen, Michael Jackson, and more. They're performing at the Canberra Theatre in May. Details here.
