Here are some activities coming up for Easter, including a couple of events this weekend:
Easter Egg Grab at the Canberra Miniature Railway: The Canberra Miniature Railway is holding its Easter extravaganza next Saturday. Over 4,000 Easter eggs will be hidden, and miniature train rides will run throughout the evening. Details here.
Haig Park Easter Egg Hunt: Hop on down to Haig Park Village Markets on Easter Sunday for an egg-citing Easter-themed market! There will be a free Easter scavenger hunt as well as Easter arts and crafts. Details here.
Easter Egg Roll-A-Thon: The inaugural Easter Egg Roll-A-thon is happening at the Little Burley Markets next Saturday. Roll your Easter egg down the hill—the roller of the egg that travels the furthest will win an egg-cellent prize. Details here.
Easter Pots: Children can decorate a mini pot with colourful markers and stickers, then fill it with yummy Easter chocolates and a fluffy pom-pom bunny to take home. It's happening at the Fyshwick Markets this Sunday, and it's free. Details here.
Easter Basket Weaving Workshop: In this workshop for women, you'll learn the art of basket weaving using materials like thread, paper, paper cups, rattan, and yarn to craft your own handwoven Easter basket. Details here.
Easter Market at Old Bus Depot Markets: There will be an Easter egg hunt at the Old Bus Depot Markets on Easter Sunday. Details here.
Easter at Corin Forest: Head to Corin Forest for an Easter adventure. Take a thrilling ride on the alpine slide, hunt high and low for eggs, and experience the magic of snow before winter even arrives! Details here.
Commonwealth Park Vision: The NCA has released its vision for the future of Commonwealth Park and is inviting public feedback on the ideas. The plans include better connections to the city, an improved home for Floriade with year-round flower displays, upgrades to Stage 88 to cater to larger events, and a new aquatic centre featuring pools located right next to the future light-rail stop. The concept is quite a long document, but I think it's well worth looking through. Details here.
The Dismissal: MoAD wants to know if you were at the 1975 Dismissal? The museum will mark the 50th anniversary of the dismissal of the Whitlam government with a program of events and is looking for stories, photographs, or objects related to this period in Australian history. More.
Yellow-footed Antechinus: And some cute news from ACT Parks and Conservation—ACT Government ecologists have found previously unknown populations of Yellow-footed Antechinus (Antechinus flavipes) at Kowen Escarpment and Rob Roy nature reserves. These tiny native marsupials are cousins to the famous Tasmanian Devil. Antechinus are known for their unique life cycles: during winter, males experience a dramatic spike in testosterone and engage in an intense mating frenzy. Within three weeks, around 95% of them perish from the resulting exhaustion and stress! This is the first time the species has been seen in the ACT for several decades. More.
Road Closures: It's best to avoid the National Triangle during the Canberra Marathon on Sunday—a number of roads will be closed. Details here.
Michelle Heyman will play her 200th game in the A-League this Sunday when Canberra United take on Wellington Phoenix. Details here.
Here's a look back at some of the key moments in her record-breaking career: More.
