At one point, there were over 100 "milkos" delivering milk to Canberra homes. In 1971, after long-running issues with the supply and quality of milk, the Federal Government formed the ACT Milk Authority, which was solely responsible for the supply, pricing, and distribution of milk in the ACT, including allocating the 'milk runs' to the milkos. The authority was disbanded in 2000 after concerns arose about the legality of the government-controlled monopoly. Deregulation of the industry and increased competition put most milkos out of business.
Canberra's last Southside milko, Joe Clift, retired at 82 in August after delivering to Southside suburbs for the past 26 years.
There is currently just one milko left in Canberra: P & M Priest Milk Vendors, delivering Canberra Milk (as well as bread and eggs) to homes in Reid and Campbell.
The Canberra Moon Festival is happening from Friday to Sunday in the city. At the Canberra Moon Festival celebration, there will be over 20 food stalls, live music and entertainment and free lantern-making, fan-painting and mooncake-making workshops. There will also be an attempt to make Australia's longest noodle. Details here.

More than 80 works by Paul Cézanne, Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti and Henri Matisse will be exhibited in Australia for the first time at the National Gallery's Cezanne to Giacometti exhibition in 2025. The exhibition is a partnership between the Gallery and Museum Berggruen in Berlin - one of the most significant hubs of modern art in Germany. More.
Co-founded by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, EatClub is a free app that lets restaurateurs upload discounted deals to the local community. The app launched in Canberra yesterday. Restaurants post targeted offers when they have spare tables to fill. You can save up to 50% off your bill by dining at certain times, like a late lunch or early dinner. It looks like quite a few restaurants around the city are using the app, but I haven't been able to test out any offers yet. Details here.
Described as a night of Glittering Garbage, The Gaudy Ball will feature Performance art and installations that are pure trash (in the best way possible). It's happening at The Polo on September 14. Details here.
Every child's journey to preschool is unique. Libraries ACT are hosting Preschool Pathways sessions for parents with information on supporting children through this transition to help children feel secure, confident and connected as they take the next step in their learning journey. The sessions will be held at libraries across Canberra during September. Details here.
