Atolya is a Sydney-based contemporary art studio. They’re running a Turkish Mosaic Lamp pop-up class. During the two-hour workshop, you will learn the techniques of creating stunning Islamic geometric patterns using specially cut and stained mosaic glass tiles to create your very own Turkish mosaic lamp. English musician, comedian and actor Bill Bailey is coming to Canberra with his show Thoughtifier. It’s a whirlwind of comedy, music, and thought-provoking ideas, philosophy, and outlandish instruments like the laser harp. It’s happening on October 28. Details here.
Michael Boyd is bringing a touch of Las Vegas to Canberra in his spectacular magic show Mystique. It features some of the world’s most impressive illusions (designed and built by the same team that works alongside the famous David Copperfield), including his latest contraption direct from Las Vegas, The Scorpion. Third Run Cinema is a temporary microcinema showing experimental, arthouse and classic world films that are otherwise unavailable to view or stream in Australia. It’s running Tuesdays in October at Verity Lane as part of the Canberra Art Biennial. Details here.
Fentanyl Found by CanTest: The highly-potent synthetic opioid Fentanyl was discovered in a brown powder presented to ACT’s drug checking service CanTEST. The sample was discarded and flagged with emergency services so they could be better prepared for potential overdoses. More.

Stream Free Movies and TV Shows
Stream thousands of free films and TV shows through the Kanopy and Beamafilm streaming apps. These apps are available on devices like smartphones and iPads as well as smart tvs.
Learn a Language with Mango
Mango is a language-learning app similar to Duolingo. You can learn over 70 languages, and access to the app is completely free.
Stream Music for Free
Freegal is an app like Spotify. It gives you access to over 18 million songs. The app is free to use with a Libraries ACT card and includes unlimited streaming. There is also an option to download 5 songs per day for free. The downloaded MP3s are DRM-free and can be stored on any of your devices permanently.
Read Magazines
Using the Libby App, you can read pretty much every popular magazine, including current and back issues. The Libby App can also be used for Audiobooks and eBooks.
Family History
Get access to genealogy databases from websites like Ancestry and MyHeritage. The library editions of these apps are slightly more limited than the paid versions, but you still get a lot for free.
