Kite Fest is happening at the National Arboretum this Sunday. There will be kite-making workshops, kite demonstrations, food and drink, live entertainment and much more. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a family day out. Details here.
On this day in 1989, 'Magnificent Mal' led the Canberra Raiders to a grand final victory over the Balmain Tigers. With five rounds remaining in the '89 season, the Raiders were sitting in 7th place, but they went on a nine-game winning streak to claim their first Premiership. The grand final game is regarded as one of the greatest deciders in NRL history, with the Raiders winning in extra time 19-14.
Social League is a combination of slow-pitch baseball & softball in a friendly and pressure-free environment. The game is designed for adults of all skill levels. During the school holidays, The Vault (Dairy Road) is hosting SPACE TIME!, an immersive show featuring the latest breathtaking images from humanity's best telescopes. There are two shows: Bright Stars designed for kids and Darker Matterfor more mature audiences.
On Friday nights the bunker also transforms into a space bar with live music and cocktails. On Saturdays there will be astrophysics talks by experts from the Mount Stromlo Observatory. Details here.
The Llewellyn Choir, one of Canberra's leading amateur choral groups, will be holding a laid-back βSwing Into Spring' concert at the Polish Club this Friday evening. Enjoy a cocktail while the choir performs jazz standards from the Great American Songbook and works from Barber, Holst, Clarke and others. Details here.
