The Craft + Design Canberra Festival celebrates Canberra as a creative capital and a global city of design. It runs from November 1 - 10 with over 20 exhibitions as well as talks, workshops, markets, and open studios. Details here.
Canberra Tri 4 Fun is a casual triathlon designed for people of all abilities. It starts with a swim at Stromlo Leisure Centre, transitions to a ride (on your regular bike) through the picturesque cycling routes around Stromlo Forest Park, and finishes with a run on the Robert de Castella Cross Country Running Track. There are multiple race distances available, including the “Teaser” triathlon for beginners. It’s happening on December 1. Details here.
Round one of the A-League kicks off this weekend. Canberra United are taking on Brisbane Roar at McKellar Park. Kick-off is at 4pm. Details here.
The Canberra Lapidary Club will be holding their Spring Gemcraft & Mineral Show this weekend at EPIC. Dealers will be selling jewellery, rough & cut gemstones, opals, fossils, rocks and mineral specimens. There will also be displays of memebers’ collections and demonstrations of cabbing, faceting & jewellery making. Details here.
At this time of year, the Rose Gardens at Old Parliament House are in full bloom and looking spectacular. The gardens are well worth a visit and they make a great picnic spot.

Canberra’s own Capital Brewing is turning seven this Sunday, and they are throwing a birthday bash to celebrate. Enjoy a stacked lineup of local and interstate artists, as well as 20 brews to try (and plenty of options for non-drinkers/designated drivers). Inspired by the novel ‘Howards End’ by E.M. Forster, The Inheritance is an epic examination of survival, healing, class divide, and what it means to call a place home. The play has been running at the ACT Hub and has received excellent reviews. The play is performed in two parts, and there is still a chance to see it at the final shows this week. Details here.
Do Canberrans Care About the Melbourne Cup? Yesterday I asked if Canberrans were interested in the Melbourne Cup—86% of respondents said they don’t care about the event.
Centre for Disease Control: The federal government has announced that a “Centre for Disease Control” will be set up in Canberra. It is expected to be launched by 2026. A location has yet to be decided on. More.
