The Compassionate Stakes was founded as an alternative to the Melbourne Cup for those who aren't into horse racing. Instead of horses, humans dressed in inflatable T-Rex costumes race against each other for the top prize. This year, the event is being held on a Sunday, ensuring no one misses out on the fun. The Capital Film Festival is back for its second year at Dendy. The festival welcomes the very best in local and world cinema, including premieres and filmmaker Q&A screenings, with a mix of dramas, thrillers, horrors, animated titles and documentaries from Cannes, Sundance, Toronto and film festivals around the globe. Take an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of House on a Path, one of the award-winning homes from the 2024 Australian Institute of Architects, ACT Architecture Awards. Originally built in the 1970s on an experimentally-planned suburban site, this home has been thoughtfully reorganised and reoriented with two carefully designed additions to the front and rear. Greens Favourites for Final Seat: Based on the latest preference distribution, Greens candidate Laura Nuttall is now favoured to take the final seat in Brindabella, ahead of Liberal candidate James Daniels. This would give the Greens a total of four seats in the Assembly, while the Liberals would remain at nine. Incumbent Mick Gentleman will not be elected.
Street Light Chargers: The ACT Government is trialling an electric car charger built into a street light—the first in the ACT. Located in Kingston, this type of charger will be useful for apartment owners who don't have access to home charging options.
ACT's Renewable Scheme Goes Negative: When Australian power prices spike, the cost of the ACT's 100 per cent renewable energy scheme goes negative. The cost has gone negative for the June quarter this year. More.
Southern Cross Club Development: The Canberra Southern Cross Club plans to build 140 units in Woden where their Pitch and Putt course used to be. The 140 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, located in two six-storey buildings, will be build-to-rent.
