🚋 The Future of Lake Burley Griffin
There’s plenty in store for LBG’s future:
Floating Saunas
Two floating saunas are set to be constructed on the lake’s West Basin, connected to the shore by a gangway. They are expected to open by next winter. More.
Seaplanes
Seaplanes will soon be operating from Lake Burley Griffin. After successful trial flights in 2023, two companies have been granted permission to begin flights, which could be operational in a few months.
A New Park and Suburb
Ngamawari Park will be developed alongside the new boardwalk completed in 2022. A temporary park is set to open in 2025, followed by the construction of an adventure playground and gardens. Looking further ahead, plans for the Acton Waterfront neighbourhood have been proposed. More.
Light Rail Stop
When the new Commonwealth Park light rail stop is finally built, it will directly connect the city to the lake, making it easier than ever for Canberrans to visit LBG.
Note: These plans are based on the current National Capital Plan, development applications, and draft projects. They may change depending on the outcome of the upcoming election.
