The visitor centre at the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex will be re-opening to the public after being closed since 2021. The tracking station at Tidbinbilla, operated by NASA, is used to communicate with their spacecraft, particularly interplanetary missions. It is currently the only station on Earth capable of communicating with the Voyager 2 probe, launched in 1977.
The visitor centre has magnificent views of the radio dishes as well as a museum of interesting space exhibits. It will reopen on December 3 and will be open six days a week (Tuesday-Sunday). However, the café and gift shop will remain closed as they are still seeking an operator. Details here.
Enjoy a festive, fun-filled evening at the Hall Christmas Fair this Friday. Stretching along Victoria Street in the heart of the village, the fair will feature a Christmas market with over 100 vendors, food and drink vans, and community displays—including classic cars, circus performances, and a nativity scene. Plus, don’t miss Santa, who will arrive in style in a vintage classic. Details here.
