News: The National Gallery is Getting a Cafe
The National Gallery has been without a cafe since the pandemic. The original cafe was hidden away at the back of the gallery, overlooking the sculpture garden. The new cafe, currently being designed by Melbourne-based Kerstin Thompson Architects, will be next to the shop at the front of the gallery. It will overlook the other side of the Sculpture Garden, which is being redeveloped. The new cafe will open sometime mid next year.

The German Film Festival is starting tomorrow at Palace Electric. Over 30 films will be shown during May as part of the festival. Find out more.
This Weekend: 🌰 Hoskinstown Chestnut Roast
The little town of Hoskinstown is hosting a Chestnut Roast this Mother’s Day. Enjoy a feast of chestnuts, market stalls, a sausage sizzle (featuring pork, sage, apple and chestnut sausages), and chestnut-flavoured gelato! Hoskinstown is a 30-minute drive from Canberra. Details here.
Something to do: 💃 Bush Dancing
The Monaro Folk Society holds a weekly bush dance at the North Canberra Baptist Church hall in Turner. The Bush Dance Evenings allow dancers to learn and practice bush dancing. The best bit is you don’t need any experience or prior practice, as all the dances are taught and called on the night. Find out More

Canberra Rep’s latest show, The Actress is on now: The curtain is ready to rise on Lydia Martin’s final performance. As she prepares to farewell the stage, her family, friends, rivals, and colleagues descend upon her dressing room to deliver gracious goodbyes and settle past scores. There’s as much drama and comedy backstage as there is onstage in this witty, smart, and emotional tribute to the power of leading ladies everywhere. Details here.

This Wednesday, there will be a Menopause Education Evening at the Ainslie Football Club. Experts will cover topics like symptoms, treatments, and lifestyle changes. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to YWCA Canberra. Details here.

Prince is a beautiful 12-year-old Siamese cat. This regal gentleman is seeking a retirement home after he was surrendered to the shelter due to his owner moving into a nursing home. Prince is incredibly sweet and sociable and loves to curl up on a lap. Find out more.
