Walk through Civic on a winter's day, and you'll see black puffer jackets everywhere, so much so that they've become known as the unofficial uniform of The Public Service.
The popularity of the puffer does make sense. They're warm and comfortable and don't look out of place when wearing business attire during the week or walking to the shops in casual clothes on the weekend.
If you're looking to pick up a puffer jacket of your own, there are several options available in Canberra. Kathmandu, Uniqlo and Macpac are all popular choices.
If you're looking for a local option, I recommend looking at Mont. Mont was founded in Canberra in 1981 by Andrew "Monty" Montgomery. He wasn't able to find high-quality outdoor gear here, so he used a borrowed sewing machine to make his own. Soon, others put in orders for his outdoor gear. Mont is still independent and designs its products in Canberra. And it just so happens Mont is holding a factory clearance sale until Sunday. Find out more.
The long-awaited upgrade to the MyWay ticketing system will begin operating in November of this year. The new system is currently being tested and allows travellers to tap on and off using a credit/debit card, phone or smartwatch.
If you currently have a MyWay card, make sure you register it online so that when the new system is rolled out, your existing balance will be transferred or refunded.
Lim Peh's at Verity Lane makes some of the best Wonton noodles and other Singaporean dishes in Canberra. Sadly, the business has announced that it plans to close at the end of May. The good news is that although Lim Peh's will no longer be at VLM, they have confirmed this isn't the end of Lim Peh in Canberra. Let's hope they open a new location soon. More.
