Construction has started on the North Wright sustainable housing precinct. The precinct is close to Stromlo Forest Park and Leisure Centre and has 43 compact house-and-land blocks. The stage one homes will have a 7.6-8 star energy rating, feature rooftop solar, heat recovery ventilation, and include battery and EV ready infrastructure. The homes will front onto a pedestrianised thoroughfare. Find out more.
National Opera will be performing the Puccini classic Suor Angelica at Albert Hall this Sunday. The performance will be sung in Italian with English scene notes provided. Tickets here.
Did you know you can plant a veggie garden on the nature strip outside your property? Guidelines released in 2019 allow residents to plant native grasses, shrubs, ground covers and veggies without needing approval. There are a few restrictions you need to be mindful of, including not using chemical sprays and making sure plants aren’t higher than 50cm (or 20cm in bushfire-prone areas). You can read the full list of guidelines here.
The Hoodoo Gurus are joining the Canberra Symphony Orchestra for Symphony In The Park this Sunday. The performance starts at 7:30pm in Commonwealth Park. It’s a free event. Details here.
The Canberra Balloon Spectacular begins this Saturday and runs until the 17th. Balloons will inflate each morning from 6:00am and launch around 6:15am from the Patrick White Lawns. There will also be food and coffee carts with freshly baked goods, offering an extra incentive to get out of bed so early. The Balloons won’t launch if the winds are above 10km/hour or coming from the west. You can check the Enlighten website each morning at 6:00am for announcements on flight conditions.
If you’re looking for an extra special experience, you can hire a GoBoat and watch the balloons from the Lake. There are still some slots available here.
The ACT Government has paid Linda Reynolds $90,000 and apologised for comments made by the former director of public prosecutions. The Liberal senator sued the ACT Government for defamation over a letter written to the AFP, which was later released via a freedom of information request. More.
