A $1.8 million 15km Stromlo to Cotter mountain bike trail is a step closer, with experts in mountain bike infrastructure Dirt Art appointed to design the track. The trail will traverse the Stony Creek Nature Reserve and offer panoramic views of the Murrumbidgee River.
17-year-old Canberra long-distance runner has claimed his first senior national title, winning the 3000m and breaking his own Australian under-20 record. The teenager is looking ever more likely to represent Australia at the upcoming Paris Olympics. More.

The National Folk Festival starts this Thursday and runs until Monday. The festival brings world-class performers, established and emerging artists and music lovers together for the longest-running event of its kind. With the weather starting to cool, now's the time to start thinking about winter heating costs. The cost of running a reverse-cycle air conditioner can be hundreds of dollars cheaper compared to a gas central heating system. Volunteers from the Kosciuszko Huts Association and ACT Parks have been generating virtual 3D models Namadgi's huts. While these models will allow anyone to virtually tour these historic sites, crucially they will also be an important record to assist in the preservation of the sites. Five of the ACT's huts are already online and another eight are coming soon. You can see them here.
The Banambila Street playground in Aranda has undergone significant upgrades and is now open. There is a basket swing, a nature play area and a "wombat" tunnel designed for toddler play. Fitness equipment for teens, adults and seniors has also been installed. More.
