A small quantity of friable asbestos has been identified in mulch found at a residential complex in Denman Prospect. Friable asbestos is most easily crushed into a powder and has a higher chance of airborne fibres. Out of the 100m3 of mulch on the site, only 0.2g of friable asbestos was identified, despite extensive testing of the site. Current advice is that this would pose a low risk to public safety if the mulch remains undisturbed. Worksafe ACT is making enquiries to determine the extent of the contamination and begin the remediation process. More.
