Made in Canberra: πŸ₯š Local Egg Producers

In the coming months, expect more news about the bird flu affecting chickens across Australia. Recently, the virus was detected in the ACT for the first time, with an outbreak occurring at Parkwood, which is managed by the national industrial egg producer Pace Farm.

However, Canberra also has several independent farms leading the industry in sustainable and ethical farming, and they could use our support in these challenging times for chicken farmers:

Amberly Farm - Amberly Farm is located in Kambah. Their flock are free to roam over 100 acres and is protected by a team of Maremma Sheepdogs. You can purchase their eggs at the Micro-Market on the farm or from various stores around Canberra. More

Farmer Browns Eggs - Farmer Browns Eggs are produced on a 20-hectare property in Hall. The hens have free roaming access to pastures and are antibiotic-free. You can find these eggs in honesty boxes in Hall and O'Connor and at the Farmers Markets at EPIC. More.

Majura Valley Eggs - Majura Valley was instrumental in getting the term "Pastured Free Range" adopted. Their flock is rotated around paddocks in mobile accommodation to regenerate pastures. You'll find their eggs at the Farm Gate Shop in Majura, which is open from 8am to 8pm and accepts card. More.

This Weekend: πŸ’ Handmade Markets

The Handmade Markets are back at EPIC this weekend. There will be over 260 designers and producers showcasing a huge range of wares including jewellery, food & drink, art, clothing and more. Entry is free, and it's indoors. Details here.

News: πŸ—οΈ Developer Licensing Laws

The ACT has passed laws to introduce a developer licensing scheme, becoming the first jurisdiction in Australia to do so. Developers will soon need to apply for a license before they can begin construction. Under the new laws, developers can be held personally liable for up to 10 years if they do not fix defects after a property has been built. The personal liability measures are designed to prevent "phoenixing", where developers start a new company after their previous business runs into issues. More.

New: πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Daiso Opens Today

Cult favourite Japanese store Daiso is opening today at Westfield Belconnen. The store is known for selling most items for $3.30. They sell homewares, stationary, beauty products, toys and food. The first 100 customers today will receive a $10 voucher.
