The ACT Government is investigating a potential case of bird flu in the ACT. The chicken farm with the suspected case has been locked down, and Environment Minister Rebecca Vassarotti said the government is working with other producers to decrease the risk of a broader outbreak. Due to the current outbreak, over 1.3 million birds in Australia have been destroyed.
With ever-rising living costs, it’s worth looking into some of the free digital services available from Libraries ACT.
Stream Free Movies and TV Shows Libraries ACT members can stream thousands of free films and TV shows through the Kanopy and Beamafilm streaming apps. You can watch these apps through your smartphone, tablet or smart tv.
Learn a Language with Mango Mango is a language-learning app similar to Duolingo. You can learn over 70 languages, and access to the app is completely free.
Stream Music for Free Freegal is an app like Spotify. It gives you access to over 18 million songs. The app is free to use with a Libraries ACT card and includes unlimited streaming. There is also an option to download 5 songs per day for free. The downloaded MP3s are DRM-free and can be stored on any of your devices permanently.
Read Magazines Using the Libby App, you can read pretty much every popular magazine, including current and back issues. The Libby App can also be used for Audiobooks and eBooks.
Family History An ACT Libraries card gives you access access to genealogy databases from websites like Ancestry and MyHeritage. The library editions of these apps are slightly more limited than the paid versions, but you still get a lot for free.

One of Canberra’s oldest Chinese restaurants is shutting up shop. Emperor Court in Yarralumla has been in business for over 40 years, with the current owners running it for over 35 years. The owners have said there isn’t as much demand for suburban Chinese restaurants anymore, and it would be tough to sell the business.
The Royal Military College Duntroon opened 112 years ago on this day. On 27th June 1911, Governor-General Lord Dudley opened Duntroon, and it was the first of the Commonwealth facilities to be established in the Capital. Photo.

Entry to Tidbinbilla was temporarily free due to the old visitor centre closing, but with the new temporary visitor centre operating, it will once again cost around $15 for a car to enter the reserve. More.
And on the topic of Tidbinbilla, work has started on a new walking track in the reserve. They are formalising a well-trodden but unmarked track along the Tidbinbilla Range from Johns Peak to Fishing Gap. It will be completed by June 2025.
