There's a new bar in Braddon. The Peacemaker Saloon is a loosely western-themed bar on Mort Street, taking over the space where Knightsbridge used to be. The bar comes from the team behind the excellent Volstead Repeal bar, which is a little further up Mort Street. Peacemaker Saloon will be serving American Southwestern food, beer, and Southern-inspired cocktails. Details here.
The new iteration of Pialligo Estate will be opening on the 4th July. Highlights from the opening menu include a Seared kangaroo striploin, 7-day dry-aged duck breast and a wood-fired rainbow trout. Those booking during the opening week will receive a glass of Champagne Jacquart on the house. Details here.
Canberra Distillery has launched an absinthe. The absinthe is distilled using locally sourced botanicals, including wormwood, anise, and fennel, and produced using traditional methods. Details here.
A recycling truck caught fire in Hawker yesterday morning. It's believed a lithium-ion battery from a vacuum cleaner sparked the blaze. The truck's load was dumped onto the road and extinguished by emergency services.
A reminder: there are free battery disposal bins at the Mitchell and Mugga Lane tips. Lithium-ion batteries can't be disposed of in a regular bin as they easily catch fire when damaged.
Fête de la Musique is a traditional music party that happens every year in France to celebrate the beginning of summer. Alliance Française is once again bringing the event to Canberra this Saturday. Details here.
