Another case of bird flu has been detected in the ACT. This case was found in backyard chickens in Canberra’s north near the existing outbreak at Pace Farms. There is a quarantine zone in place, and residents with birds in the area are requested to register them online. Details here.
This Sunday, 7th July, is World Chocolate Day, so I thought I’d include some chocolate goodies from Canberra and the region:
Studio Cocoa Chocolate Workshop: Learn the art of all things chocolate from chocolate connoisseur and owner of Studio Cocoa, Tannah. At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your very own box of handmade chocolates. Details here.
Studio Cocoa will also have a pop-up shop (upstairs near Watches of Switzerland) at the Canberra Centre this weekend where they’ll be selling a number of exclusive treats made just for the event.
Murrumbateman Chocolate Co.: Just a 30-minute drive from the city Murrumbateman Chocolate Co are offering 10% off everything in-store (and online) this weekend. They also run several chocolate-making and tasting experiences. Details here.
Jasper + Myrtle: Canberra’s very own chocolate maker sources their beans direct from Bougainville in PNG. Their products are available online, at their factory in Dairy Road and from Harris Farm Markets. Details here.
Every Sunday Edgars in Ainslie is doing a roast. For $25 you’ll get meat with all the sides and a Furphy beer, house wine or soft drink included. Details here.

The Little Burley Markets are throwing a special winter-themed market today. As well as the market stalls, there will be marshmallows for toasting, damper, and a multicultural soup celebration. Details here.
The Hall Markets are back this Sunday from 10am to 3pm at the Hall Showground. You will find stalls offering a variety of products, including food, locally grown vegetables and fresh produce, baked goods, plants, furniture, clothing, pottery and more. Entry is via a gold coin donation, with money going towards Hartley’s vital support work. Details here.
Old Canberra Inn is throwing a Pirate Party to celebrate International Rum Day. There will be prizes for best-dressed pirates, a sea shanty sing-along and plenty of rum. It’s happening today. Details here.
As part of NAIDOC week, The National Arboretum is holding boomerang workshops. Participants will learn the basics of boomerang mechanics, their unique flight patterns and how to safely throw them. This event is for children aged 7-12. Details here.
