The AIS Arena is set to reopen after a $15 million renovation. The venue was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and was used as a mass vaccination clinic. Concerns over fire safety meant it never reopened. Upgrades include work on the fire system, new flooring, seating, lighting, and air conditioning. The Canberra Capitals are yet to confirm if they’ll move back to the arena for the next WNBL season.
The ice skating rink, snow play area, and winter-themed food and drink stalls will be opening in Haig Park this weekend. In Garema Place there will be free fire performances every evening at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30pm. It’s running until the 21st of July and you can book tickets online for skating and snow play. The Raiders will be looking to turn around their disappointing run of form when they take on Newcastle this Sunday afternoon at Canberra Stadium. Details here.
The ACT Government will introduce changes to planning laws to require individual water meters for apartments, townhouses and mixed-use developments. Currently, most people living in apartments pay a fixed charge based on the total water usage divided between owners. Under the upcoming changes, new developments will be required to install individual meters to be managed by Icon Water. This should make water bills much fairer for apartment residents. The changes to the planning laws will be phased in over the coming years.
Beltana Farm is hosting a truffle-themed dinner where they’ll showcase truffles from their own farm in new ways. Think truffle potato scallops and truffle ice cream. It’s happening on the 31st of July. Details here.
Swap out something you don’t wear anymore at the See-Change Winter Clothing Swap this Saturday. Bring five items of clean, laundered clothing to swap or purchase for a gold coin donation. There will be some home-baked goods and tea and coffee available too. It’s happening at Tuggeranong Uniting. Details here.
