Kitchen by Mike is an award-winning restaurant in Sydney led by Mike McEnearney, former head chef of Rockpool restaurant. The National Gallery is hosting a pop-up from Kitchen by Mike in conjunction with the Gauguin exhibition. You can expect wood-fired meat and fish, fresh salads and cakes made in-house. The restaurant is on the ground floor with views of the Sculpture Garden and Lake Burley Griffin. It’s open 11am to 4pm until October 7th. Details here.
The Green Shed Underground shop in the City will be reopening this weekend. It will be run by the son of the previous owners. The Green Shed will accept donations directly, and they will also be placing donation bins around the City. Details here.
Strathnairn’s annual people’s choice art competition Squares is back for its 18th year. There were 319 12-inch square canvas entries in 2023. Registration for this year’s competition is now open until August 4th. If you know someone with an artistic flair, let them know! The exhibition of entries will be running from 24th August to 22nd September. Details here.
Tucked away in the AD Hope Building at the ANU is the Classics Museum. Established in 1962, the Museum displays a collection of over 600 pieces of art and objects of daily life from Greece and the Roman world, including Egypt and the Near East. The museum was closed due to hail damage, but it reopened on July 1st. It’s open to the public on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Details here.
Mount Stromlo Observatory is running public astronomy nights this year. The sessions in July and August are booked, but there are still spots available for the September session. You’ll have the chance to see the craters of the moon, planets, and beautiful star clusters and nebulae. Best of all, it’s free but you can also make a donation. Details here.
