It has been 40 years since the 1984 Royal Commission into British nuclear weapons tests conducted in Australia in the 1950s and '60s. The NFSA will be holding a number of special-themed screenings including Maralinga Tjarutja, a documentary on the Maralinga people whose lands were used for the nuclear tests. Elliot Whitehead has confirmed he will be leaving the Raiders at the end of the season to return to the English Super League and his former club, Catalans. The 34-year-old captain has played 198 games for the Raiders after joining the team in 2016. More.
On July 19th the Questacon Earthquake House will be reopening. The original Earthquake House was replaced by an Earthquake Lab in 2014 but it looks like the much loved house will be making a comeback. The interactive exhibit which simulates what an earthquake is like, first opened in 1988. Details here.
This weekend and next, Questacon will stay open late for the school holidays. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a look at the Lego exhibition without the crowds. Details here.
ACT’s container deposit scheme has been running for six years. Eligible bottles and cans can be taken to a return point for a 10c refund. In the six years of running, 561 million bottles and cans have been recycled, and $32 million in refunds have been paid.
