In what's believed to be a world-first, electric vehicles in Canberra fed electricity back into the grid when a storm downed power lines in Victoria, cutting off power generation. In February, charging stations began draining the batteries of ACT government electric vehicles to feed energy back into the grid. While the amount of power from the 16 vehicles was not substaintial, it demonstrated how electric vehicles could be utilised to stabilise the grid in the future. More.
Bentspoke's Truffle Beer is back for another winter. The brew is infused with truffles from the Blue Frog truffle farm just outside Canberra and a blend of fruits and spices. It's available now at the Brewpub (Braddon).
The ACT Brumbies have struck a deal with Rugby Australia to secure the franchise's future. Under the arrangement, RA will take over the running of the ACT Brumbies business and staff in Canberra will continue running the rugby operations. The Brumbies have been given a guarantee the club will remain in Canberra till at least 2030. More.
The Girl Who Glows is a local production that shines a light on the impact of current world events on our young children. The Girl Who Glows is a magical family-friendly musical adventure story told by three musicians/singers/actors/puppeteers called Zeeko. It's coming to The Street on July 18. Details here.
Tuggeranong Arts is offering a six-week introduction to printmaking using mini presses and hand-carved wood blocks. You'll start with black and white prints, gradually expanding your skills each week, culminating in the production of a multi-coloured short run of editioned prints to take home.
