The National Multicultural Festival is from the 16th to 18th February. It will follow the same setup as last year’s successful event, which saw over 380,000 people attend. The festival will be spread across large areas of the CBD, with many roads closed to traffic. More than 170 communities will be represented at the event this year.
The ACT Government has announced that public transport on buses and the light rail will be free during the event. Details here.
I’ll have more details on road closures closer to the event.
Plans have been lodged for a new “Central Park” development in Denman Prospect. The plans include 152 new townhouses and apartments across eight separate buildings. The buildings will range in height from three to six storeys. 21.5% of the site will be dedicated to communal open space, including a community garden and playground. Another 21.5% of the site will be reserved for deep soil planting. Details here.
Last year, an event was scheduled to celebrate 100 years of Haig Park, but it had to be cancelled due to heavy rain. The event has been rescheduled for this weekend. There will be music and dance performances, a suitcase rummage and the launch of the new Ngala Logs seating area. Details here.
