New Eats: 🥩 Botswana Butchery

Canberra’s newest restaurant, Botswana Butchery, is opening today. It offers relaxed dining with an upscale atmosphere. The two-story, 180-seat restaurant is located in the Canberra Centre and is the 5th Botswana Butchery restaurant in Australia. The menu features classic dishes for people who love their meat, fish and game, and there is an extensive wine list showcasing great Australian and New Zealand wines. Details here.


Something to do: 📚 Bookclub at the NFSA

The National Film and Sound Archive is conducting a series of screenings and discussions exploring how culturally significant books have been adapted and reimagined as films. You can buy a season pass for all screenings or just get tickets to individual sessions. The first screening starts in February and they continue throughout 2024. Details here.


Meet Rocky 🐕

Rocky is the longest-staying resident dog at Canberra’s Domestic Animal Services (the pound). He’s been at the shelter for 303 days, waiting for his forever home. You can find out more about Rocky and the other residents at the shelter here.


Development: 🏗️ Quarantine Hotel Has Been Transformed into Apartments

Canberra’s COVID quarantine hotel has been transformed into the Cento Apartments. The Northbourne Avenue hotel, previously known as the Pacific Suites has been completely transformed. Each floor was completely demolished inside to create a mix of 1 and 2-bedroom apartments. You can see the new apartments here.


This Weekend: Night Markets

This Australia Day Long Weekend, a 600-drone skyshow will illuminate the night sky. Running alongside the show from the 25th to the 27th will be the Night Markets, featuring a variety of multicultural cuisines and locally made arts and crafts. Details here.


Coming Up: 🏃‍♀️ Memory Walk and Jog

On Sunday, 25th February, Walk, jog or run the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore to help beat dementia. Registrations for the Memory Walk & Jog are now open, and early bird pricing is available until 28th January. You can choose to participate in a 2km walk, a 5km jog/walk or a 10km timed run.
