A new gelato shop is opening in the Capital Food Market (Belconnen). Matteo and Juliana Sassi are the two foodies behind Florence Gelato. Matteo trained in Italy and was most recently the Head Pastry Chef at Sonoma and previously Head Pastry Chef at Adriano Zumbo Patisserie. Florence Gelato opens today. More.
Popular swimming spots on the Murrumbidgee River and Cotter River have been closed due to a high bacteria alert. Lakes, including Lake Burley Griffin and Lake Tuggeranong, are also closed for swimming. The high bacteria levels are due to the recent heavy rain. More.
The 2024 Australian Good Food Guide Awards have been published. Taking out the top spot in Canberra is the Tuggeranong-based restaurant Table by Canberra Gourmet. You can view the full list of hatted restaurants here.
Jatz, Oreo, Monte Carlo and McVitie are the newest additions to the National Zoo. The penguin chicks were born late last year and are now big enough to be in the enclosure with the 12 other penguins.
