News: ☕️ Gus’ Place is Closing

Gus’ in the city will be closing its doors this Sunday at 2:30pm. Gus’ has made a significant contribution to Canberra’s cafe scene as it was the first cafe to introduce outdoor dining in the 70’s.

Gus’ building is on the site of a 11 story hotel development and work on its demolition will soon begin. Developer TP Dynamics has said they wish to include a new Gus’ in the hotel. You can read more about the history of Gus’ here.


News: 💣 West Majura Grasslands Reopens After Unexploded Ordnance Found

The West Majura Grasslands has reopened to the public. The area was closed in October after Milisearch was contracted by the ACT government to determine if unexploded ordnance were present on the site. In the mid-20th century, Majura and Ainslie were used as live military firing ranges. Five unexploded ordnances were discovered and removed. The site is planned to be used as an environmental offset to compensate for the impact of developments around Canberra.

Today: Bucky’s Blues & Roots Charity Gig

The Harmonie German Club is hosting a fundraiser gig for Rise Above: Capital Region Cancer Relief. This is the 21st year the concert has been held. There will be 8 musical acts with over 8 hours of live music. Details here..


Tomorrow: 🏏 Big Bash League

The Big Bash League is back in Canberra tomorrow evening. The Sydney Thunder will be taking on Adelaide Strikers. The game starts at 7:15pm. Tickets here.


Something to do: 🔨 Breakr Break Room

Breakr is Canberra’s own ‘break room’ - a dedicated space for breaking plates, mugs, glasses, vases and other fragile items all in a safe environment. You can use tools including a baseball bat, hammer and crow bar. Breakr only uses items that were unable to be sold through op-shops and would have been disposed of. Details here.
