News: 🤖 Meet Marty the Urban Heat Robot

The City Renewal Authority is using a robot named Marty to measure outdoor heat in locations across the city. The study is being led by Mosaic Insights and the Climate-Resilient Cities Lab at the University of New South Wales. The research will help in planning outdoor spaces that are cool for residents, workers and visitors. More.

News: ✈️ Flights to Bali Now on Sale

Flights to Bali, direct from Canberra, went on sale for the first time yesterday. Batik Air will fly between Canberra and Denpasar three times a week. The flight will take around 6h50mins. Ticket prices start at $629 return. Details here.

On This Day: 👑 Queen Elizabeth II Visits Canberra

Queen Elizabeth II made 14 trips to Canberra. Her first visit was in 1954, and she arrived in the ACT on February 13. She opened a session of parliament at Old Parliament House, and then legend has it that while attending festivities at Manuka Oval, the Queen mispronounced Manuka and Canberrans were so polite we continued saying it that way. It’s a nice story, but probably not true.

40,000 people came out to welcome the royals at various points around Canberra. The first people to camp out were Robert and John Anderson, aged 12 and 10, of Torrens Street in Braddon, who went into the city centre at 4am to secure a prime viewing spot.

Road Closure: Bunda Street

Bunda Street in the City will be closed to traffic from 8pm tonight until 8pm next Tuesday. The Multicultural Fesitval is happening this weekend. There will be more road closures closer to the event. Details here.

News: Reload Bar is Being Sold

Reload Bar in the City has been listed for sale, with the owners looking to focus on their other venture, a school holiday program. Reload has been open for the last 10 years and is a unique bar with a mix of arcade games, video games, pinball and more.

Sport: Raiders Launch Alternate Jersey

The Raiders have launched an all-green alternate jersey for 2024. It’s going to be worn for the first time when the Raiders take on Parramatta in a trial match this weekend. You can see it here.
