Ballyhoo will be the final restaurant to open in the space where the iconic Lobby restaurant used to be. The precinct in the parliamentary triangle already houses Rosa's and KOTO.
Ballyhoo will offer laid-back dining with Mediterranean and South American influences. It will be headed by hatted chef Dave Young, who previously ran Temporada. The restaurant has opened bookings for "first look seatings" starting on August 20 and featuring a set menu. Details here.
Based Book Arts is a local creative workshop specialising in book arts. They run a series of workshops on bookbinding using a variety of techniques. During the workshop, you'll learn basic bookbinding skills and how to make your own book. There are three workshops coming up in August; long stitch, french stitch, and case binding. Details here.
The ACT Government has held off on signing the Federal Government's Better and Fairer Schools Agreement in the hope of getting a better funding deal. The agreement requires states and territories to adopt a number of measures to improve student outcomes, and in return, they'll receive increased funding. All other states apart from WA and NT are also holding out for an increase in funding. More.
Raider Josh Papalii will play his 300th NRL game this weekend against the Bulldogs. While he'll get a special shoutout at Belmore Oval, the celebrations will happen next weekend when the Raiders play the Sea Eagles at home. The Raiders will be looking to get a crowd of 20,000 for the occasion, and there will be special hats, t-shirts, foam fingers, and fan clappers. More.
Join the Alpenrose trio for an evening of Beethoven, Faure, and Brahms. They'll be performing at the Wesley Music Centre this evening as part of their Australian tour. The Alpenrose Trio features three young Australian musicians who met at the Mozarteum University in Austria while pursuing their Music Master's degrees. Details here.
