Did you know that in the ACT, you can use the verge (nature strip) to plant a veggie garden? Local community organisation SEE-Change was recently awarded a Community Grant to create demonstration verge gardens to inspire and educate others on how to get the most out of their nature strip. They’ll be creating five demonstration gardens in Belconnen, planted with seasonal produce based on expert advice from Fiona Buining of Ainslie Urban Farm.
They are currently looking for 'Verge Champions' living in Belconnen who are interested in hosting one of the gardens on their verge. You can email [email protected] to express interest.
There's a spirits and food festival happening next weekend at the Botanic Gardens. There will be over 75 craft gins and spirits available to taste, as well as talks and demonstrations. Details here.

Floriade Keeps Cool: Due to the unseasonably warm end to winter, Floriade has started to bloom a bit early. The ABC caught up with Floriade's head gardener, Tim Howard, who mentioned that his team is trying to slow things down by spraying water to keep the plants cool. It might be a good idea to visit Floriade earlier this year!
Vehicle Registration Checks: Drivers caught by traffic cameras speeding, going through a red light or using a mobile phone will now also have their registration checked to make sure it's current. Driving a vehicle without a valid rego can result in a $700 fine. The new registration checks started today.
