In bad news for hay fever sufferers, the Canberra Pollen Monitoring Centre has warned Canberra could be in for a more severe pollen season than usual. More.
Canberra’s ice hockey team, the Brave, have won the 2024 Goodall Cup. After a shaky start to the season, the Brave delivered when it mattered most, putting together strong performances in the AIHL Finals and defeating Melbourne 5-0 in the grand final to claim the trophy.
Riders Lane is Canberra’s first social enterprise for motorcycle owners. They’re on a mission to empower motorcycle enthusiasts with knowledge and skills to work on their own machines in a safe and inclusive workshop. They hold classes and events as well as offer a motorcycle workshop space where members can work on their bikes in a friendly environment. Details here.

Beaver Galleries in Deakin is Canberra’s longest running private gallery. The owners have announced the gallery will be closing on December 1. The Beaver Galleries were originally founded by Ron and Betty Beaver in a Red Hill home in 1975. Their architect son designed the current gallery in Deakin featuring three large gallery spaces that showcase work from a diverse range of Australian artists. Details here.
Open Gardens Canberra has released its spring program, featuring nine stunning gardens around Canberra to explore. Proceeds from ticket sales support charities, often chosen by the garden owners.Details here.
King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit of Thailand visited Australia for the first time, arriving in Canberra on September 26, 1962. Traffic chaos ensued as 5,000 people gathered at the airport to welcome them. An estimated 20,000 people lined the roads to catch a glimpse of the royals as they made their way to Government House. The couple were the first reigning foreign monarchs to visit Australia.
A new park celebrating Ngunnawal culture has opened in Watson. The park features play equipment, a Maliyan (Wedge-tailed Eagle) structure and native animals and insects designed by Ngunnawal artists Jazz and Krystal Matthews. The park is off Aspinall Street in North Watson.
For over 25 years, Dragons Abreast has supported Breast Cancer survivors through the physical activity of Dragon Boating. This weekend, Dragons Abreast Canberra is holding a come-and-try day for people who’ve had a breast cancer diagnosis and are looking for a way to recover and connect with others who’ve been on the same journey.
