New: 🕰️ Capital Bazaar

Capital Bazaar, a new hub for vintage goods, antiques, and collectibles opens its doors today in Fyshwick. The ‘bazaar’ is home to around a dozen vendors selling everything from mid-century furniture, vintage clothing, eclectic glassware and much more. If you have quality vintage or antique items to sell, they’re also interested in buying. Details here.


News: 🏊‍♂️ Canberra Olympic Pool Closure

The 50m Canberra Olympic Pool will be temporarily closed from August 26th to October 25th for essential remediation and upgrade works. The pool, nearly 70 years old, has been plagued by issues, including leaking up to 79,000 litres a day in 2015. Although the ACT Government plans to replace the pool with a new one in Commonwealth Park, that project is still many years away from delivery.


New: 🪄 A Harry Potter Inspired Bar is Opening Soon

The Sneaky Cauldron is a new magical cocktail experience that will open soon at Quizzic Alley in Fyshwick. Quizzic Alley is the home of the largest collection of licensed Harry Potter merchandise in the southern hemisphere and is run by former Paralympian Michael Milton. Under the guidance of skilled potion masters, guests will learn the ancient art of potion-making to create bubbling cauldrons and smoking cocktails. The mixology sessions will begin on Friday, 6th September. Details here.


Something to do: 🐕 Paint Your Own Pet Workshop

John Hart, a local artist, is running Paint Your Own Pet workshops. The workshop runs over 5 Sunday sessions and will teach you the basics of realist painting. While open to people of all skill levels, it is a particularly good introduction to oil painting for beginners. Details here.


Made in Canberra: 🐝 HiveIQ

HiveIQ, a Canberra-based manufacturer of beehives, was recently named Exporter of the Year at the 2024 ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards. HiveIQ’s hives are made from high-density polystyrene, providing greater insulation to keep the bees healthy and productive. The company is currently shipping over 500 hives to the U.S. every week! This Weekend: 🐶 Paws Party

Bring your dog along to the Book Week themed Paws Party in Haig Park this Sunday. There will be a costume contest, a book giveaway, live music and a photographer to take pro pup pics.
