Several changes have been introduced by the ACT Government to boost entertainment and live music in the city centre. Noise limits on certain nights have been relaxed, licensing fees for venues supporting artists have been reduced, and musicians can access free loading zone permits. More.
Blonde Design runs ring-making classes out of the Belconnen Arts Centre. During the two-hour hands-on workshop, you'll learn the basics of silver or goldsmithing and go home with two handmade customised silver or gold rings. Details here.
A two-decade-long battle over farm leases in the Majura Valley appears to be nearing a resolution. The government has offered an in-principle 25-year lease with a no-withdrawal clause, providing farmers with certainty over land use. Legal advice is being sought to ensure that the changes to land tenure have the correct legal effect for both the farmers and the government.
On Thursday I shared the CatVideoFest and now I have something for the dog lovers: The Top Dog Film Festival, a carefully curated program of short canine-themed films celebrating the bond between dogs and their people. The Sydney Philharmonia Choirs is Australia's largest choral organisation and resident company at the Sydney Opera House. They will be performing in Canberra at the Snow Concert Hall next week with a concert showcasing music from the Baroque era. Details here.
Heaven nightclub was open in Canberra from 1993 to 2001. The club was one of Canberra's only queer-friendly venues and hosted some of the city's first drag performances and Canberra's first female DJ. This November, the club is returning in spirit for one night only as part of the SpringOut festival. Details here.
