TV personality, actor, comedian and author Stephen Fry is coming to Canberra this November. Hear firsthand the ups and downs of Stephen’s personal voyage through life and show business. The team behind the Two Before Ten cafes have opened Denman Kitchen & Wine Bar. The family-friendly gastro-pub has an exciting menu with all the classics you’d expect from a local and a few surprises like a hoisin duck leg, goat rendang and house-made gnocchi. The ACT Government will begin employing a team of trained building certifiers within Access Canberra. They will review documents for quality assurance and attend inspections throughout the construction process. The publicly funded certifiers have been introduced in response to several high-profile cases of poor developments.
Cypher Brewing in Gungahlin will host the Cypher Dark Beer Festival this Saturday. Nine breweries will join Cypher to celebrate dark beers. Tickets include a tasting glass, samples of each of the beers and a bottle cap to vote for your favourite. Details here.
The Celebrate Gungahlin Festival will be happening in October. As part of the festival, there will be a Carnival of the Animals parade. Between now and October, Belco Arts is holding artist-led workshops to create costumes, props, banners, flags and decorations for the parade. ANU Ends Weapon Investments: The ANU has announced its investment pool will no longer invest in ‘controversial weapons manufacturers and civilian small arms manufacturers’. The ANU student encampment had called for the ANU to cut ties with these companies.
ACT Transport Infrastructure Plan: The ACT Government has released the transport update to the ACT Infrastructure Plan. It outlines the future plans for transport in Canberra, including light-rail extensions and active travel routes. More.
