Food2Soil is a local Canberra startup that is turning food waste into fertiliser. They make Australia's first fermented bio-fertiliser made from commercial food waste diverted from landfill. The microbially rich solution revitalises lifeless dirt into productive soil. They collect food waste from partners, including Harris Farm Markets and AlphaFresh, and then ferment it into fertiliser. By diverting the food waste from landfill, they are preventing the production of methane gas, which is more than 25 times more potent at trapping heat in the atmosphere.
The fertiliser is available for sale at IGA and Supabarn and can also be purchased online. Find out more.
Meet Hades, Smudge, and Arthur, three of the more senior dogs at the pound looking for their forever home. Unfortunately, most older dogs are overlooked due to their age, but adopting an older dog means you don't need to worry about any of the cheekiness or trials that come with raising a puppy. Find out more.
Bonsai After Dark is a relaxed social event combining drinks and canapรฉs with a fast-paced bonsai demonstration. Internationally recognised artists will transfer a stock tree into a Bonsai live on stage. There will also be Bonsai silent auctions where you can take home a bonsai of your own. Details here.
Bonsai After Dark is happening in conjunction with Bonsai Reshaped, an annual celebration of the art of Bonsai. Unfortunately, the Bonsai Beginner Workshops sold out right away. But there is a Bonsai Market happening this weekend. Details here.
The 2024 Heritage Polaris is happening this Saturday. The Polaris is a mix of cycling and orienteering. On a bike and in teams of 2 or more, you'll seek out checkpoints spread out across Canberra. The choice of checkpoints is up to you. The full event takes 7 hours, but there is also a 3.5-hour half-day option. While the event is competitive, it's open to people of all skill and fitness levels. Find out more.
This Sunday, there will be a walk for dogs (and their humans) from Regatta Point to Bowen Park. Once you reach Bowen Park, there will be coffee, doggy treats, and plenty of family-friendly games and activities. It's free, but registration is required. Details here.
New details have emerged as to how the police investigated the 1999 murder of Irma Palasics. Court documents have shown the police set up a fictitious criminal syndicate to trap the accused, Mr Fabriczy, into admitting he was there. They hired Mr Fabriczy to "do work" for the syndicate, for which he was paid to gain his trust. More.
Missy Higgins has been forced to postpone her shows in Canberra this week. She is suffering from a viral throat infection. Frontier Touring has said the tickets for this week's shows will automatically be valid for new dates in August. Those who can't attend the new dates will be offered a full refund.
This Saturday, as part of the Heritage Festival, Canberra By Bike is running a City West Culture Tour. You'll explore the sculpture trail between Latin America Plaza and the ANU campus. Details here.
Corrections - I said the GWS Giants were playing Sydney in yesterday's issue. It should have said they were playing St Kilda. Apologies to the Swans fans ๐ซค. Also the link to the Justice of the Peace Talk was not working for some people. You can access that event here.
Thanks everyone for your feedback - it really helps!
