Here is a round-up of what's happening in Canberra for Anzac Day.
The Dawn Service is at 5:30am in the sculpture garden at the Australian War Memorial. The Veterans' March is at 9:30am and runs for approximately 90 minutes. There is new seating around the parade ground, which will be used for the march. Details here.
Tickets aren't required for the Dawn Service or march. However, a ticket is required to visit the War Memorial (galleries and commemorative area) after the march. Tickets have been exhausted for Anzac Day.
From 7pm tonight till 6pm tomorrow, Anzac Parade will be closed to traffic. Limestone and Fairbairn Avenues in front of the AWM will be blocked off.
You can register to ride on the special public transport shuttles operating here.
St John's is the resting place of Canberra's first Anzac. They will host a gunfire breakfast after the Dawn Service as part of the Heritage Festival. Enjoy a simple BBQ breakfast, including coffee and a nip of rum. Duntroon guides will also be holding tours of the military graves and monuments.
St John's is a short walk from the Dawn Service. Details here.
The Dock at Kingston is holding a day full of events for Anzac Day. You can watch the Dawn Service at 5:30am at The Dock before a Gunfire Breakfast. Two-Up will be played from 1pm with proceeds going to charity Soldier On. Details here.
The National Film & Sound Archive is running a special screening of the film Before Dawn. Inspired by the real-life diaries of Anzac soldiers, Before Dawn shines a light on a lesser-known offensive from the final months of the First World War. Australian director Jordon Prince-Wright will be there for a post-screening Q&A. Itβs happening tonight at 6pm. Details here.
Braddon Wine Bar and Restaurant Rizla is hosting a 'happy hour' of wines from local winery Pankhurst. Allan and Christine will show off emerging varietals and blends that don't regularly feature on the Rizla list. Make sure you make a booking. Details here.
Assembly will open from 6am for breakfast and from midday you'll be able to play two-up and watch the footy. Details here.
Double Demerits: Double demerits will apply from 12am tonight till 11:59pm on Sunday. During the last double demerit period over Easter, 44 drivers were found to be speeding.
Supermarket Opening Hours: Most supermarkets will be open from 1pm tomorrow for Anzac Day.
Build to Rent in Dickson: The Dickson Village Apartments (Above the new Coles) are offering an added bonus of 4 weeks free rent. Details here.
Parks Closed for Pest Control: Areas of Namadgi, Tidbinbilla and other reserves around the ACT will be periodically closed over May and June for aerial pest control targeting pests like feral deer and pigs. This will be Canberra's largest ever pest program implemented after additional funding was secured by the Government. If you see a helicopter around the parks, it's probably part of the thermal pest control program.
Road Toll: The 2024 road toll has already matched 2023's toll. Four people have been killed so far in 2024.
