The National Zoo and Aquarium has welcomed the 27th baby zebra born as part of the breeding program. It will be a few weeks before the zookeepers can get close enough to the baby to find out its sex. The National Zoo and Aquarium is part of a network of internationally accredited breeding programs that add to the insurance population of a species. More.
The Canberra Fire Museum preserves artefacts of historical significance relating to fire-fighting services in the Canberra region. The Museum has a number of restored historical fire appliances on display. It is housed in the Forest Fire Station, which was built in 1938, and the heritage-listed buildings are rare examples of inter-war functionalist architecture.
The Museum is open to the public on Saturdays from 10am till 2pm and entry is via a gold coin donation. Details here.
During the school holidays, Canberra Airport is running exclusive behind-the-scenes bus tours of the airport. The Runway Tour will be led by Canberra Airport staff and will go for around 30 minutes. It’s happening Monday and Tuesday next week. Details here.
Canberra’s Light Rail has turned five. The ACT Government released some stats: Currently, 20% of all public transport trips in Canberra happen on the light rail, and 16.5 million passenger trips have occurred. 99.98% of all services have run on time.
The Canberra MS Walk Run or Roll is happening in 2 weeks on May 5th. The event raises funds for Multiple sclerosis research, a disease with no known cure. It is the most common neurological condition in young adults. Find out more.
African Festival in the Park is a free annual event showcasing Africa's diverse cultures through art, music, dance, fashion, and food. It’s happening in Commonwealth Park today from 10am to 8pm. Details here.
