News: Greens win Vacant Legislative Assembly Seat

Greens candidate Laura Nuttall has won the countback for the seat of Brindabella in the ACT Legislative Assembly. The seat became vacant after Greens member Jonathan Davis resigned after allegations of inappropriate conduct emerged. At 24, Laura Nuttall will be the youngest Greens member elected to any Australian parliament. More.


🏫 News: UNSW Reveals Plans for New Canberra Campus

UNSW Canberra has revealed plans for some of its campus that will be built opposite CIT on the corner of Constitution Avenue and Coranderrk Street in Parkes. The site is currently an unsealed car park. The university is required to have several publicly accessible car parks on the site as part of the lease conditions. Construction should begin in 2026. 🪑 News: Parliamentary Committee Recommends the ACT Should Get More Senate Seats

A federal parliamentary committee has recommended doubling the number of Senate seats for the ACT to address imbalances in representation.

Tasmania, with a population of ~558,000 people currently has 12 Senators. Whereas Canberra with a population of more than 450,000 residents only has two.

The recommendation is strongly opposed by the Liberal opposition. More.


🥐 Three Mills Coming to Belconnen

Popular bakery Three Mills will be one of the new tenants at the Capital Food Market. Formally known as the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, the currently under-construction Capital Food Market should open in December 2023. The new food markets will have around 40 retailers and dining options and around 200 parking spaces.


🚗 This Weekend: Caffeine & Machines

There will be a display of cars, bikes and machines at Silk Cafe this Saturday. The event will be raising money for Capital Region Muscular Dystrophy. Entry via a gold coin. Details here.
