From next year, public schools will be banning mobile phones. Individual schools will decide how to implement the policy, and the ban will be phased in during term 1. Students will not be permitted to use or access personal communication devices during class and during recess and lunch.
The ban will apply to students from preschool to year 10.
There will be exemptions for students with medical circumstances or with caring responsibilities. More.
From January 1st, venues that seat less than 80 people will have reduced licensing costs and will be able to trade until 2am. Currently, small licensed restaurants can only have liquor service until 12am.
The ACT government is looking to boost Canberra’s nighttime economy.
A new telescope at Mount Stromlo will allow researchers to receive and transmit thousands of times more data into space than previously possible. It will be used as part of future manned missions to the Moon and, eventually, Mars. More.
