News: 🍼 Top Baby Names of 2023 Released

The most popular baby names in Canberra for 2023 have been released. Henry, Oliver, and Theodore topped the list of boys' names. Amelia, Charlotte, and Ava were the most popular girls' names. Hudson, Muhammad and Violet are all newcomers to the top 10 list. The full list is here.

New Eats: 🌮 Paloma's on Lonsdale Street

A new Mexican venue has opened on Lonsdale Street. Paloma's is next door to Hopscotch and shares the same owner. Cocktails include frozen margaritas, Liquid Churros, and a Champagne Pina Colada. The menu features fresh oysters, tostadas, tacos and other Latin-inspired bites.

I'm most intrigued by Paloma's collabs with Capital Brewing and Bentspoke. There are two Mexican-style Lagers on tap; "Dos Capitals" from Capital Brewing and "Salud" from Bentspoke. Details here.

News: 🏏 Manuka Oval Could Host Big Bash Finals

Should the Adelaide Strikers finish either first or third in the Big Bash League, they will play their semi-final match in Canberra. The move is due to a scheduling clash, as Adelaide Oval will be hosting a test match.

Canberra is already due to host one more Big Bash game of the regular season. Sydney Thunder, featuring David Warner, will be playing the Strikers on January 14.

Canberra United are back in action this Saturday at home against Western United FC. United are currently bottom of the table and will be keen to finish the year with a much-needed three points. Kick-off is at 5pm. Tickets here.

Sport: 🏀 Canberra Capitals Lose to Perth Lynx

The UC Capitals blew a 27-15 first-quarter lead to go down 98-90 against the Perth Lynx. The Capitals currently sit at the bottom of the WNBL table. Match report.

NYE: 🍾 Monster Kitchen

I've been sharing ideas on what to do this New Year's Eve. I'll be spending my NYE at Monster:

Monster Kitchen in New Acton is hosting a New Year's Eve Dinner. There will be a shared menu with the option to add free-flowing drinks for 2 hours. There are just a few tables left. Details here.
