Demolition of the Capitol Theatre in Manuka has begun. Once demolished, a 122-room hotel will be built that will connect to the Parisian-styled building next door. The project has been dogged by numerous delays, and it’s not clear when construction will be finished.
The National Capital Authority will be bringing a drone show and night market to Canberra this January. The free community event will feature a 600-strong drone show.
The show can be viewed from the shores of Lake Burley Griffin and will take place from the 25th to the 27th of January. We’ll have more details closer to the event.
The UC Capitals beat the second-placed Melbourne Boomers 84-72 to take their first win of the season. Match report.

The Little Burley Market is hosting a Big Christmas Bash today. This special market will be running from 8am to 8pm, and there will be visits from Santa, over 100 stalls, circus acts, face painting and much more. Details here.
There will be Christmas train rides at the Canberra Miniature Railway this Saturday evening. Gates open at 5:30pm. When the sun sets, the site lights up with thousands of computer-controlled animated lights. Santa will be arriving by train at approximately 6pm and 7pm. Tickets here.
This evening, Christmas favourite Love Actually is playing at the Sunset Cinema. The outdoor cinema is at The National Botanic Gardens. Details here.
The Canberra Cavalry are playing a 4 game series against Adelaide. The final two matches are on today and tomorrow. Tonight's match theme is “USA Night”, and Tomorrow afternoon it’s “Canada Day”. Details here.
